Westport Public Schools

Staples High School, Westport’s only public high school, was ranked the #1 school in Connecticut in 2009 by Connecticut Magazine.

Westport has two middle schools (Grades 6 to 8) – Bedford Middle School and Coleytown Middle School, with a total of 1321 students. In 2009, Bedford Middle School was awarded the government-honored Blue Ribbon Award.

There are five elementary schools (Kindergarten to Grade 5) with a total of 2,556 students:

The school district had an estimated $109.1 million budget for the 2009-10 fiscal year, giving it an average per pupil expenditure of $16,266. The average class size in the school system as a whole was 21 students.

Westport Private Education

Pierrepont School, located on Sylvan Road, opened in that location in 2002. Pierrepont is a private K-12 school for gifted students.

Greens Farms Academy is a K-12 private preparatory school located in the 1920s Vanderbilt estate overlooking Long Island Sound.


Fairfield Public Schools

Fairfield has two public high schools, Fairfield Warde and Fairfield Ludlowe, as of January 2011 the enrollment was 2843. The three middle schools in Fairfield; Roger Ludlowe, Tomlinson, and Fairfield Woods educate 2431pupils and the eleven elementary schools service 4,848 children.

Fairfield Private Education

Fairfield has several Catholic schools, including two high schools, Fairfield Prep and Notre Dame, and two primary schools, St. Thomas Aquinas and Our Lady of the Assumption.

Non-religious private schools include Eagle Hill – Southport, Fairfield Country Day School, and the Unquowa School.

Fairfield is also home to two post-secondary institutions, Fairfield University and Sacred Heart University.


Weston Education

The Weston public school system has consistently been recognized as one of the finest in the nation, proudly attaining National Awards for excellence.  All four schools are located on a single 120-acre campus, all located on School Road:

  • Weston High School — Grades 9-12, with about 800 students. Weston High School (WHS) seniors in the class of 2006 had the highest average SAT scores in the state, and many WHS students go on to attend selective colleges and universities. The Class of 2008 had the highest CAPT scores in the state in 2006.  Recently the high school underwent a significant building expansion, which included construction of a new science department and new playing fields. The high school auditorium was also updated in 2008.
  • Weston Middle School (WMS) — Grades 6-8, with about 600 students.
  • Weston Intermediate School (WIS) — Grades 3-5, with 571 students. The school opened in September 2005 as the town’s newest school.
  • Hurlbutt Elementary School (HES) — Pre-Kindergarten-Grade 2, with about 600 students.
